Don’t Self Destruct

Social media is a wonderful thing. It opens us up to the world. We can learn, grow and be inspired through our interactions with strangers, celebrities we admire and our friends from our home town. But, there is a downside.

Social media can also be destructive. It can lead us on the road to depression as our self-esteem becomes buried under the feelings of self-doubt and negativity that we project on ourselves as we compare ourselves to other people. We are all guilty of this. As we scroll through our newsfeed the self –doubt kicks in – She is so much more prettier than me…and she is far more intelligent than me… she is better than me because she has a career and owns her own home…it goes on and on. Stop. Please stop.

You are enough, as you are. You are beautiful, as you are. You are successful, as you are. And there is nobody, NOBODY that is better than you. We all come in different shapes and sizes, and that is ok. We all live different lives and come from different backgrounds and that is ok too. Let’s celebrate who we are and what we have achieved instead of comparing our journey to someone who is on a completely different path.

If someone in your class received a higher grade in their exams than you that does not mean that your grade is worthless. Just because someone the same age as you is getting married does not mean that you should be getting married right now too. Be you. Live your life the way you want to live it, not the way society tells you that you should. Don’t let your insecurities get the better of you, don’t self-destruct. Just like every flower in the garden you are beautiful and unique, just the way you are.

Remember that you are enough.

Love and Blessings
