“Life isn’t about finding yourself- it’s about creating yourself”-George Bernard
Have you ever experienced a time in your life where outwardly you looked the same, but inwardly you felt completely different?
I feel like I am currently going through one of those phases. The strange thing is, it’s happening right here, right now amidst the normality of my everyday life. It didn’t happen when I went travelling to Europe for a couple of months, or road tripped around New Zealand. It’s happening now in my 9.00-5.00 job as a law grad (well 8:30-5:00 on a good day!).
What I am realising is that often we wait for our environment to change before we do. We wait to go on that big adventure to find ourselves, to feel new things, to try something new.
Although when your external circumstances change, for example when you travel, it can force you out of your comfort zone and often you will change, however that doesn’t mean that you can’t go on your own personal adventure right now, (which from my own experience can be just as rewarding and lead to even more internal growth and happiness).
For the record I am not saying travelling isn’t awesome, because it is. I love seeing new places, experiencing new cultures, meeting new people. But what I am getting at is don’t buy into that limiting belief that you can only find yourself or change, when you’re in a different environment.
Every day, right now, is an adventure where you can learn new things about yourself, read new books, try a new hobby, talk to a new person, start something new, create new meaning in your life.
Life’s too precious to wait for the perfect environment where you will finally grow. Commit to that growth and that adventure each day.
