What is Your Zen Life about? It’s really whatever your experience is with it. It’s supposed to be individual and in a perfect world I would hope that community members can feel aligned with something deeply recharging, connected, inspiring and exciting. It’s a refreshing look on life, health, mindfulness and our daily interactions.

I’m so thrilled you are here! Thank you for coming together to create this special tribe of people. YZL was born back in 2011 when my dear friend Phoebe Tonkin and I were discussing the Gandhi quote “Be The Change You Wish To See In The World”. It was something that really resonated with us and we both loved the idea of using our profiles to affect positive change. So YZL launched. We had desires to start focusing on what connects us rather than what separates us. We wanted to celebrate the individual as well as highlight the idea of oneness. We were inspired by the idea of a community of like-minded people banding together in a positive environment to enrich, teach, support and encourage each of us to live our greatest and most fulfilling lives.

Let Your Zen Life serve you! Be motivated and guided by our regular contributions from experts in a multitude of fields, from nutrition to meditation, eco-living, mindfulness and healthy cooking, as well as the wonderful contributions from you…our community! Your Zen Life began as, and will remain, an online scrapbook for us all to help one another. We would love to hear your voice, we should all be given the opportunity to give to one another and through your contributions you are being part of the movement to help create change. So THANK YOU.

We also have a fabulous forum area where you can sign up, be a part of the community and join in the conversation!

If you don’t know much about me, Teresa Palmer (aka Tez), here are some things to know:  I am a mother of two sons named Bodhi Rain Palmer (born February 2014) and Forest Sage Palmer (born December 2016). I am married to the sweetest, hunkiest and most evolved man I know, Mark Webber. Through him I get to step-parent my amazing 10 year old stepson, Isaac. We live in Beachwood Canyon in Los Angeles AND Scott Creek in Adelaide, South Australia. We have a hippy tree house with a pool and various other kid zones in our very lived in home in LA, and in Adelaide we live on 10 acres of land on a private wildlife sanctuary where I grew up with my Dad and ended up purchasing his property from him; we even have pet kangaroos!

I’m very much in to mindfulness and conscious living, self-development work, spirituality, connecting deeply in my interactions, I like to redefine the idea of healthy eating (look out for more posts on this!). I enjoy hiking, yoga, playing sports with the kids and ALL things baby, parenting and pregnancy. My days in LA are mostly taken up by play dates, kids classes and activities with Bodhi and Forest, or just chilling at home with the tribe. Random things I love are storms, UFO stories, ghost stories, anything supernatural and true crime.

I’m also a documentary filmmaker, writer, actor, philanthropist and have a sister site, Your Zen Mama with Sarah Wright Olsen. I love learning all the time and teaching and connecting with YOU guys.

If you haven’t already checked out my Tez Talks please do so, I’m very real in them and share insights, ideas, advice and I’m super crazy honest in them. I cover a wide range of topics from Self Love to Finding Balance, Manifesting to Growth in the Darkness and Letting go of expectations. They’re very stripped down, raw and unrehearsed which is why I believe they’ve been really well received. I like to strip away the barrier between people with a profile and you guys, we need to get rid of any pedestals. I think the entertainment industry gives such a false sense of reality and I’m making it my mission to shed some light on that. I want to be a role model for younger people and that means being upfront and unafraid to be imperfect and flawed. My favorite people are usually those of us who show all colors of ourselves, and that’s what I try to do in these Tez Talks.

Oh and lastly, pop over to our sister site, Your Zen Mama by me (Teresa Palmer) and my awesome and super inspiring mama Sarah Wright Olsen. YZM is a community and network for mamas, papas and caregivers to feel empowered, supported, inspired and accepted! yourzenmama.com

Describe your way?

Being mindful and living consciously. I try to navigate through life always leading from a place of love, and trusting that the Universe will guide me.

What personal growth are you working on?

I am currently working on being more present and focusing on the now. I have been revisiting a lot of the teachings of Eckhart Tolle and finding them to be so helpful in bringing me back to the present. Life can be so busy and overwhelming at times that it is really important to practice this kind of simplicity. It is vital to be able to return to the reality of what is happening presently.

Smoothies or juice kinda girl?

Green juice all the way!!

Favourite meal?

Guacamole and chips (snacks are included right?!)

What lights you up inside?

Bodhi and Forest Palmer and simply the privilege of being their mum! It is something I have wanted my entire life and from the moment I fell pregnant with Bodhi, something shifted in me and I finally felt like I had settled into who I authentically was. They make life so magical for me.

Who or what inspires you?

My mum is my number one ultimate inspiration. She is the most selfless, pure of heart, sweet, caring, compassionate human being I know – she is the definition of love and I’m so glad my son can learn by her example.

What is important to you?

Living as mindfully as possible. It’s been the key to happiness for me. Being whole and loving of self and then being really conscious of my interactions with others is imperative to me.

Favourite book and why?

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle is my bible. His philosophy resonates so beautifully with me and I owe some really significant breakthroughs and shifts in my life to his teachings.

What is your star sign and how representative of its characteristics are you?

I am a Pisces and I am so representative of the characteristics associated with being a Piscean. I am definitely a HUGE dreamer, animal lover, go with the flow kind of person. I’m also a loyal friend and independent plus I’m super sensitive so I’d say it’s a pretty accurate portrayal of my way!

If you could only eat one vegetable for the rest of your life it would be...?

Broccoli every day of the week!! It is hands down my favorite veggie. It is high in fibre, an amazing source of vitamin c and folate and in my opinion tastes amazing!

What do you do to keep your mind healthy?

I read a lot, I believe it is important to keep your mind active and I love reading both books and articles online. I believe you can never learn too much! I also meditate, I have recently begun working with a meditation teacher which I have found invaluable in refining my practice and also being held accountable to ensure I show up daily.

What do you do to keep your body healthy?

I consciously make an effort to listen to my body, ensure I am aware of what I am eating and what my body is craving – well balanced but not so militant that I can’t indulge – and commit to moving my body. I do this by participating in either an intense cardio session or a mom and bub yoga class, pilates or hiking up to the Hollywood sign with my dogs.

Your proudest achievement?

My sons, Bodhi and Forest. Hands down, they trump everything else and are such a blessing in my life.

The best part about motherhood is... ?

Just knowing Bodhi and Forest, my greatest loves, better than I know anyone else. Watching their connections and interactions, watching their personality develop. I just love observing them both and their wonder of the world, watching them grow before my eyes is remarkable. I can’t believe I get to love them the way I do. It’s the most fulfilling and enriching experience in my life.

Your favourite affirmation?

Every experience I have is perfect for my growth.

Candles or incense?

Actually, Palo Santo incense is my everything. It helps with headaches, it’s a complete mood changer and has other wonderful healing properties. Plus the house smells amazing and it drops you straight in to the mindful vibe.

How do you unwind?

A bath filled with bath salts and lavender oil and either my iPad or a good book and I’m set!

What is something you really love to do?

Something I absolutely love doing whenever I have downtime is getting tucked up in bed with the hubs and binge watching true crime shows or a good horror film!

What does 'me-time' mean to you?

Me-time is anytime I can have just for myself when I can switch off, even if it is just for 10 minutes to relax, go within and unwind. Typically, my ultimate me time is a bath and it is something I consciously make space for every day. I truly believe in making it a priority to carve out time for yourself, it is so beneficial for your overall health and mental well-being.

What does health and wellness mean to you?

Health and wellness to me means knowing yourself deeply and listening to the voice of your spirit and body. Make the best decisions for the overall maintenance of a healthy mind and body and you’ll be setting yourself up for happiness and longevity.

Your most treasured possession?

The book of memories that my nanna and I filled out a few months before she died. It was beautiful and so special to be able to sit down together and hear and write down all of her stories before she died, and now have it as a keepsake as something I can show my children to teach them about her.

How do you switch off?

I have really mastered the art of switching off during any downtime I have. It’ll either be yoga, a bath or listening to a spiritual teacher.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully being a mum to a few more children! Splitting my time between LA and Adelaide, furthering my work in the health and mindfulness world, continuing to work with radical and interesting filmmakers and working on other mom based passion projects.

Motto that you live by?

Be The Change You Wish To See In The World – Mahatma Gandhi.

Favourite food indulgence?

Anything that consists of chocolate and caramel is a done deal in the indulgence stakes for me!

Your favourite cuisine to eat out?

Japanese!! LOVE it so much. I usually spend at least 4 nights a week in a Japanese restaurant!

What does a 'zen' lifestyle involve for you?

It means showing up in your day-to-day life. Always coming from a place of love and spreading it far and wide, listening to your body, challenging your mind, making time for yourself, eating a healthy but balanced diet, moving your body, engaging and surrounding yourself with positive people that light you up and encourage you, resting and finding stillness (less clutter less business), being mindful in your interactions, consciously choosing to care for the environment and animals and easing your eco-footprint on the world so we can preserve it for our children and our children’s children.
