If I’ve learned one thing in my 19 years on this planet, it’s that I am my toughest critic. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be the best, the smartest, the prettiest, etc. Sometimes we forget the little things in life. We forget how important it is to take care of ourselves: mind, body and soul. We forget to appreciate the things that we do have. Most importantly, we forget to love ourselves first. A positive mind will bring you everything you could possibly need. It allows us to accept what we have, what happens to us, and how others treat us. This is not to say that we don’t need to strive to be better, stronger, and happier. It is to say that the things surround us should not be effecting our light and our joy.

1) Motivation

Motivation and will-power both stem from a strong, healthy mind. When you think negative thoughts, your actions are sure to follow. Replacing this pessimistic outlook with an optimistic one will change your world. Things that used to be hard will become easier because your head will no longer be standing in your way. Motivation is all about wanting something and letting yourself have it.

2) Stronger Relationships

Happy people attract more happy people. When you surround yourself with a negative light, you attract more negativity. Positivity allows for trust which strengthens relationships. A relationship without trust cannot survive. Humans are hardwired to want to be with trustworthy people. When you have a optimistic outlook on a relationship from the beginning,

3) Confidence

A negative person can find negative attributes in others as well as themselves. Loving yourself first is key to having a happy and fulfilling life. There is a sort of glow to positive people. They generally walk taller, laugh louder, and love harder.

4) Better Energy Levels

Being pessimistic is exhausting. I have found that it is so much more difficult to be negative. It’s stressful, it’s tiring, and most of all, it’s dangerous. Unnecessary stress weighs you down like an anvil to the chest. Why suffer when you are control. One of my favorite quotes is by Charles R. Swindoll who said “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” It’s exhausting staying mad or sad. Life should be consumed with insane happiness. There is no room for long periods of negativity.

5) Stronger Mind & Body

Speaking of energy, draining your body with negative thoughts is detrimental to your health. Long periods of pessimism are bad for the mind and can warp your though process. Instead of waking up excited for the day, you wake up sluggish and miserable. Think about it. When you’re sad, you feel tired. You feel week. You feel unmotivated. Overtime, this takes a major toll on your body. Happy, positive people wake up better and go to

This is not to day that it’s not ok to have a bad day. We all have bad days. We all have negative thoughts. It’s about not letting these negative thoughts to put out your light. Do not create limits for yourself. There are already so many people in the world that will try to put you down. So what can you do? Start by ridding the negativity around you. It’s hard to change your own thoughts when you have people telling you the opposite. Next, filter your thoughts. When you catch yourself saying something negative, stop yourself. Come up with 10 positive thoughts to combat the negative one. It’s all about perspective and this life is as hard as you make it. Choose to fill your life with joy, light, and love.
