3 Sure Fire Ways To Connect With Your Body (When You Feel Totally Disconnected From Your Body)

Are you sick of hearing wellness experts tell you to ‘listen to your body?’

Does it make your stomach flip over, your brow furrow, your chest contract when you hear someone spouting off about how wise the body is, because you feel like you just can’t access that wisdom?

You can feel the part of you that knows that what these experts are saying is legitimate – but there is a bigger, more frustrated part of you that is screaming “HOW THE HECK DO I LEARN TO LISTEN TO MY BODY?!?!”

Have you attempted ‘intuitive eating’ or any other program that tells you to back off, let go of the rules and relax with the promise that this will lead you to body bliss, health and happiness – only to feel like you were more lost, more crazy and more out of control than ever?

Do you feel like there MUST be some innate wisdom in your vessel, but it feels like it is being crowded out by all the noise of ‘experts,’ crazy food fads, cravings, stimulants and all the other wonders of the modern world?

If so, you are not alone.

I used to feel exactly the same way. I knew deep down in my core that my body was my friend, that it knew how to be healthy – and not only that but that it also knew how to guide me in my life choices, showing me what was and what was not in alignment with who I was/am – but I just could not for the life of my access that information.

I struggled with trying to ‘eat intuitively’ or listen to my body cues in life in general, because the truth was, I had never learned to speak the language of my body. I was at odds with my beautiful vessel – and I bet you are too.

So, how do you go about truly learning how your body speaks to you, so that you can actually tap into the vast expanse of wisdom it has to share with you?

You start with the basics and work your way up.

Here are three easy, practical tools you can implement into your life RIGHT NOW (that do NOT require that you change how you eat, move or sleep) that will help you start to learn how to ‘speak body.’ This will help you begin to settle the war between your brain and your bod, so you can live from your center of peace and knowing. Your body is a portal to your inner guidance system. You just have to learn to read the code it sends you.

Tool One: Relax Your Body, Relax Your Breath: The very first step in re-connecting with the wisdom your body holds for you, is to learn to relax. You may not even be aware at this point that you spend most of your day tied up in knots – and that all this tension is hindering your ability to hear from your body. Think of your body like an electric wire, and all of the information it has for you like the electricity that flows through the wire. Now think of that tension you are carrying around like resistance in that wire – and that resistance blocks the flow of energy. The more tension in your body, the less it is going to be able to communicate with you, because tension is resistance to information. For this step, all you need to do is check in with your body a few times a day; notice the tension you are carrying around, and mindfully relax it. Take a few deep breaths; relax your face, your shoulders, and your belly. Breathe. Then carry on with your day. This may sound overly simple, but if you make it a practice, your connection will be profound.

 

Tool Two: Ground Yourself: If you are anything like the general population, you are living 99% of your life in your mind. Meaning even if your body is trying to communicate with you, you don’t notice because you are energetically more like a disembodied head than a whole complete being. Spending a few moments every day to ground your intention back into your body will dramatically increase your capacity to hear what it wants to share with you. You can do this simply by doing a quick body scan – feeling into your toes, your feet,  and so on all the way to the top of your head – going outside and feeling yourfeet on the earth, tuning into all 5 senses and taking in what you perceive, or simply breathing deeply for a few minutes each day. See if you can spend more time ‘in your body’ throughout your day.

 

Tool Three: Notice Where The Stress Is: Lastly, once you have practiced relaxing your body periodically throughout your day, you will notice that you hold tension in the same areas every time you check in. Now that you are aware of these tense spots, you can use them to help you tune in even deeper to your body wisdom. Rather than trying to relax and release that tension right away, take a few moments to feel into the tension. Investigate it. What does it feel like? If you could visualize it, what does it look like? Sound like? Is it moving? Does it have a color? Deeply feel into the sensations in your body, and visualize them as though they are physical objects. From there, make room for those objects to communicate with you. This may sound a little ‘out there’ but once you give it a go a few times, you may be surprised at what you discover about yourself!

 

Your body is 100% on your side, and wants you to have the best life ever. All you have to do is learn to speak its language, and let it lead the way!
